Monday Music News

  • Following her arrest for hash possession last Thursday, Fiona Apple made her first statement on the arrest during a show in Houston the following night. Apple noted that while “most of [the people involved in her arrest] were very nice to me”, Apple claimed that four related persons partook in “inappropriate and probably illegal” behavior. Watch fan footage of the quintessentially Fiona rant below.

  • Former Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg spends most of his time nonchalantly kicking around Minneapolis these days, he still spends his spare time playing music in his basement. For the first time in years, one of those tracks has made its way out of the basement. Entitled “My Road Now”, the track features all of Westerberg’s songwriting hallmarks: a raspy growl, a barroom piano, and a streak of dark humor. There’s no word on any other Westerberg plans at the moment, but you can stream the track below.

  • Although their latest album, Centipede Hz, was only released a few weeks ago, Animal Collective are already prepping new music. The album cut “Applesauce” will be issued as a single on 10″ vinyl on November 11th, with the non-album cut “Crimson” taking up the b-side. View the single’s artwork and pre-order it over at Domino.
  • Canadian synth rockers Metric snagged a guest appearance from Lou Reed on their most recent LP Synthetica, and last night at Radio City Music Hall, they got one more. Emily Haines and co. brought out the one-time Velvet Underground leader for renditions of Metric’s “The Wanderlust” and VU’s “Pale Blue Eyes.” Watch video of the onstage collab over at Consequence of Sound.
