Also Out This Week: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – The Heist

David Hasselhoff, move over! The Heist is now #1 in Germany! And #1 in the U.S. and Canada too! The new album by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, out today, has blown up on iTunes and steadily moved up the charts since it was released this morning until it hit the top spot, beating out hot sellers like Mumford & Sons and Ellie Goulding. On Twitter, Macklemore thanked fans for their continued support and for doing nearly the impossible — making a completely self-produced, self-released and self-promoted album the highest seller among big label contenders. Tweets Mac:

When we decided to go independent, we knew that if the music was going to spread, it would be because of the people. No big $$. No cosign…

Just fans that connected with what we were making and were willing to spread it. The fans have been our distribution. Our publicists….

Really, the people have acted as our record label…. And can I just say, you’ve done a WAY better job than any major could have with our album. I still can’t believe we hit #1 on iTunes. I got the screen shots and I’m showing my kids those pictures one day! Can’t believe the response to the music thus far. We put in almost 3 years to make this album. I couldn’t dream of a better way to celebrate. Thank you

You can pick up your own copy of The Heist on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ website or on iTunes, along with everyone else!

If you are in Seattle, the guys will be at Easy Street Records Queen Anne location at 5:30pm today, October 9th!!! Get more information here.
