Live Around Town This Week

It may have turned for the worse outside, but there’s still plenty to see inside. City Arts Fest dominates most of the schedule with an amazing week of music ahead in almost every venue in town. It’s a busy week with a ton of great choices for everyone. On Monday night Beth Orton sets the bar high for the week with a highly anticipated performance at Showbox at the Market. On Tuesday, Grimes, Elite Gymnastic, and Myths are at Neumos, Crocodiles and The Soft Pack are at Crocodile, and Jason Lytle and Sea of Bees play downstairs at Barboza. There’s also the Earshot Jazz Festival with Bettye LaVette at the Triple Door, or a show at at Easy Street Records in Queen Anne with The Maldives. On Wednesday, City Arts kicks off their 3rd season with shows all over town, including a really cool one at the All Pilgrims Church venue with Jonathan Russell (The Head & The Heart), Kevin Murphy (The Moondoggies), and The Cellar Acoustic. Also part of CIty Arts, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, Pollens, Synthony, and Western Haunts at Barboza, and Brother Ali and Blank Tape Beloved are upstairs at Neumos. Earshot Jazz Festival also continues with Vijay Iyer Trio and Cuong Vu’s Triggerfish at Benaroya Hall. On Thursday night, City Arts continues to heat up with Lemolo at Triple Door, Gold Leaves, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, Throw Me The Statue, and Tomten at Crocodile, The Dusty 45s with Vince Mira Band, Legendary Oaks, and Song Sparrow Research at Barboza, and last but not least – Mos Def, The Physics, Larry Hawkins, Thaddeus David, and DJ Swervewon at Showbox Sodo. You can also go see a kick ass local show with Absolute Monarchs, Gaytheist, and Constant Lovers at Chop Suey. Friday night we’ve got a great show with Calexico and The Dodos at Neptune Theatre and the rest is City Arts Fest.
