Monday Music News

  • The xx released this new video for “Chained” off their most recent album Coexist. If the lyrics and male/female vocal layers don’t get you, the beauty of this video added to the music certainly will. Directed by the Young Replicant Team from The Creator’s Project, the video is as minimal but deeply affecting as the band’s sound.

  • Toro y Moi, or Chaz to his friends, released this blurping single, “So Many Details” today. A little bit 70s smooth, a little bit chiming and sweet, the single has enough details to keep the song interesting, but not too many to bog it down.

  • In honor of City Arts Fest this weekend, as well as a slow news day probably due to CMJ, check out this awesome video of St. Vincent and David Byrne. They talk box choreography practice and you get to see Annie do a handstand and backbend, as well as David doing small chopping motions for a warm up.

  • The kids at PS22 just won’t stop – they released this awesome cover of Tame Impala‘s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” this morning. I think this video proves that kittens aren’t the cutest things ever, because the exuberance and joy in the faces of these kids just kills me every time.

  • In other music/non-music news the ever versatile, “based-god” rapper Lil B tried out for the NBA today. His chances of making the team are slim to none, but I think what we are all hoping is that a new Lil B single comes out of this eye-opening, world-widening experience.
