After years of friendship and floating around the Seattle music scene, musicians Christian Wargo (Fleet Foxes), Casey Wescott (Fleet Foxes) and brothers Ian and Peter Murray formed Poor Moon. Carving out their self-titled debut record from Wargo’s fully-arranged songs, Wescott and Murray were eager to share the intricate harmonies, meticulous acoustic-minded arrangements and unique songwriting that give’s Poor Moon its own fingerprint. Brimming with fantastic harmonies and waves of rich, warm texture that encompass the listener more with every listen, Poor Moon have made a home for themselves with the legendary Sub Pop Records and are sure to dazzle audiences all week long.
Finishing out the second day of our live CMJ broadcast, Poor Moon eased us into the late afternoon with their swaying, lush acoustic sound. Even though the band hails from Seattle, they may just as likely be a beach-washed SoCal band with bluesy melodies and an easy going mood that is equally contagious and endearing. Twittering tambourine laced through “Birds,” “Buck Pony,” “Phantom Light” and “Holiday” as each track gained energy as they progressed. Nothing like rounding out the day with a joyful, rocking hometown band making their CMJ debut!
