The past eighteen months have been a whirlwind forĀ Daughter. The London-based trio released two EPs last year (His Young Heart in April and Wild Youth in October), played a sold-out show at the Assembly Hall of North London, and signed with 4AD this past spring. Daughter gave four performances at CMJ this year, including a sold-out show at the Mercury Lounge and a five-song set at our CMJ Union broadcast. Elena Tonra and Igor Haefeli’s constant instrument-swapping and Haefeli’s use of a bow on his guitar reminded me a bit of fellow Brits Wild Beasts, while Tonra’s contralto voice has drawn comparisons to Florence Welch and PJ Harvey. Watch their dramatic, captivating set below.
