  • In Purity Ring‘s new video for “Lofticries” characters are faced with surreal moments of death and unreality – and react with stoicism. Directed by AG Rojas, who also directed Spiritualized‘s “Hey Jane” video, the camera sticks close behind the characters as they encounter everything from a body laying in shallow water, a glowing hearse in garage, and a pale woman with a glowing stomach. • Alt-J (∆) and Mountain Man recorded a song for the soundtrack for upcoming film Silver Linings Playbook – “Buffalo” features Alt-J’s somewhat disjointed rhythmics right at home being backed by Mountain Man’s twangy harmonies. Listen to the track at here:

  • Not to say that there is always news about Nirvana, but it seems like there is always news about Nirvana. This weeks bit comes as previously unseen photos of the band in Sub Pop co-founder Bruce Pavitt‘s new ebook – Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe 1989. The photos come from Nirvana’s first European tour, before Dave Grohl joined the mix. What’s more is the book benefits The Vera Project here in Seattle. [Pitchfork]
  • Bjork‘s new video for “Mutual Core” off her 2011 album Biophilia correlates love to rocks and sound to rocks and then adds some volcanoes to make the tectonic metaphor just right. Standing waist deep in sand wearing a sequin and geode covered top, Bjork starts with simple sounds but builds into a molten lava mountain of IDM. [Stereogum]

  • Sufjan Stevens’ “I’ll be Home for Christmas” follows (second following video of the day!) a little girl as she skips through a basement-like house on Christmas morning – the video seems to take the phrase “if only in my dreams” from “I’ll be Home” literally. But all’s well that end’s well, despite the feeling of foreboding, nothing bad happens other than a few balloons being popped, logs being split, and, oh yeah, dead wolves being buried in a candle filled ritual. [Stereogum]

  • Beat Connection released this kaleidoscopic psychedelic video for their “Think/Feel” featuring vocals by Chelsey Scheffe. As the single from their upcoming The Palace Garden, the chilled out electronic feel and beautiful visual abstractions by Gerrett Tiedmann compliment each other perfectly. [Prefix]

  • Metric released this video for their track “Breathing Underwater” made from footage of their summer tour. The video reads like a celebration of astonishment on Emily Haines’ part – that the band has gotten so big and gotten to experience so much with their tours. “Is this my life?” she asks over and over, while the crowd at Lolla roars. [Prefix]

  • American shoegaze band Asobi Seksu and Japanese metal/shoegazers Boris recorded covers of each others songs to be released on vinyl for Record Store Day’s Black Friday. Catch those two tracks below. [SPIN]
