- McSweeney’s has commissioned fantasy writer Richard Parks to create an hour-long radio special starring Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips, which will be aired on Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. Pacific time on KCRW (more info here). It’s an old-time radio special in the War of the Worlds tradition, and the main conflict has to do with a human-head-sized tumor growing out of Wayne Coyne’s leg -- a tumor whose symptoms can only be quelled by original music from Bill Callahan, Will Sheff (Okkervil River), Eleanor Friedberger (Fiery Furnaces), Nico Muhly (who’s worked with Bjork, Philip Glass, and Antony and the Johnstons), Fat Bobby and Kid Millions (Oneida), and Ed Droste (Grizzly Bear). Also appearing are Jack Hitt from This American Life and Paul F. Tompkins. This should be a thrilling experience. [McSweeney's]
- Speaking of Wayne Coyne, he was apparently responsible for entirely shutting down Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City last week because he was trying to carry a grenade onboard in his luggage. TSA, as you can imagine, was concerned for everyone’s safety and let the Flaming Lips frontman travel only after they had determined the grenade was a dud. Coyne apologized via Twitter with a photo (above) of himself giving the peace-sign at the airport with the message, “Sorry Sorry Sorry!! Everyone that was inconvenienced because of my grenade at OKC airport!!” [Spinner]

- Great news for all of us R Kelly fans who enjoyed the first 23 chapters of Trapped in the Closet but needed more: During a Q&A/sing-a-long in New York, following a special screening of additional chapters, Kelly revealed he is working on a Broadway version of the series, and that he has about 85 more chapters in the studio.
