At this point, there are fewer and fewer new releases, as critics, DJs, and fans alike assemble their year-end “Best of” lists (have you voted for your own?), so you’ll mostly find gift-friendly re-issues, holiday collections and box sets new in stores each week. Among them, the 20th anniversary edition of Rage Against the Machine‘s groundbreaking debut, packaged with 2 CDs and 2 DVDs and lots of eye candy, should make 90′s alt-rock fans drool, and for the even older fogies, there’s a 30th anniversary live concert recording by legendary British punk/folk group The Pogues. You also might find some new discoveries among the self-released albums and EPs that tend to come out this time of year, like those from UK artist Lone Wolf or LA producer Dan Froth. And it’s a good time to pick up limited releases like the new self-titled LP by Chicago’s Joan of Arc, available only on 500 hand-numbered vinyl copies (190 of them white vinyl!) and special collaborations like the pairing of The Animals frontman Eric Burdon and the Detroit rockers The Greenhornes.
