Live Video: Tilbury at KEX Hostel

photo by Jim Bennett (view set)

It’s hard to call any Iceland band a “supergroup,” since it’s standard practice for musicians there to juggle any number of projects, but the members of Tilbury come with a high pedigree, hailing from current groups like Sin Fang, Amiina, HjaltalĂn, and Valdimar. Unlike those other bands, Tilbury, like the name of the band itself, draws heavily from the U.K. Their songs, all sung in English, are full of 80’s sounding synths and emotive pop songs. (You can read more about the band’s “engaging play between light and dark” when we featured their song “Tenderloin” as a recent Song of the Day podcast here.) For their performance at KEX Hostel during KEXP’s broadcast from Iceland Airwaves ’12, Tilbury played an extra long set, including seven songs from their terrific debut album, Exorcise, plus a brand new one, “Deliverance.” By the time the pulled out of the fiery closer, “Electric Boogaloo,” the audience was sweating as much as the band! Check out photos from their session here and videos here:
