Although METZ released their self-titled debut barely two months ago, the power trio, or at least the seeds of the band, have been around for about five years and have built a reputation in the Toronto music scene for a mind-blowingly loud and ferocious show -- a reputation which has spread with them around Canada and the U.S. For their Sub Pop release, this already established band sharpened and adapted their sound in the studio with help from Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck), Alex Bonenfant (Crystal Castles), and Leon Taheny (Final Fantasy/Dusted), whose job it was to harness one of the loudest and most creative punk bands playing on the live music circuit. Last month, METZ stopped by KEXP to perform four songs from the new album, and the resulting videos from the intimacy of our studio give listeners a best-of-both-worlds -- the ferocity of a METZ live performance with the chance to hear some of the melodic nuances and songwriting, more apparent on the album, which might be missed if you were too pumped up and busy banging your head into a monitor at a METZ show somewhere.
