Last night, James Blake treated the audience at Conway Hall in London to some soulful new songs. In the clip below, Blake plays two unreleased tunes, plus “Lindisfarne I and II” and a cover a Joni’s Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” According to Consequence of Sound, Blake will play one more show in the UK tonight (at the Gorilla in Manchester), then head stateside for a pair of New York dates. No word yet on when Blake’s sophomore album will be released.
Speaking of highly-anticipated albums, we now have a little more information on the rumored My Bloody Valentine record courtesy of bassist Debbie Googe. “It will definitely come out, as it’s pretty much finished,” Googe told Drowned in Sound. “I mean, it’s impossible to talk about time with Kevin [Shields], but...he’s got one more track he’s got to do, then that’s it.” Though she will be touring with the band next year (they just added three UK dates to their 2013 tour schedule this morning!), Googe says she has not be involved in the recording process for the new album. When asked to describe the new record’s sound, she remarked, “I really couldn’t at all! I’ve heard more of the new Primal Scream record than I have the new My Bloody Valentine one!”
As promised, here’s a SXSW 2013 update! Yesterday afternoon, a slew of new artists were added to the line-up, including Toro Y Moi, Ra Ra Riot, Major Lazer, Wavves, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Here’s the full list of bands.
Sigur Rós have released the latest entry in their “Valtari Mystery Film Experiment”: a series of short films based on songs from their latest album. The twelve-minute film, entitled “Leaning Towards Solace,” comes from Italian-Canadian director Floria Sigismondi, best known for writing and directing the recent Runaways biopic. “Leaning Towars Solace” features a medley of “Dauðalogn” and “Varúð” and stars John Hawkes and Elle Fanning as a father and daughter living in a desert wasteland. Make sure to watch the full clip: the ending is more than a little mind-blowing.
Finally, R&B artist Autre Ne Veut (aka Arthur Ashin) has released a new video with the help of rapper Mykki Blanco. The clip for “Counting,” from Ashin’s forthcoming sophomore album, Anxiety, takes place in a hospital, where the two artists take turns tending to an elderly woman. Watch the video below.
