It was fitting a fitting way to wrap our broadcast at KEX Hostel in Reykjavik during Iceland Airwaves ’12 with Sindri Már Sigfússon and his group Sin Fang. Sindri was one of the first artists we met the first year we arrived in Iceland in 2009, and we recorded him as a solo performer in his basement studio. Back then, he called his project Sin Fang Bous, and it was an outlet for him to experiment more than he was doing with the gorgeously lush pop melodies of his other group, Seabear. Over the years, though, he shortened the name to Sin Fang and added more players to his live set, including some names you’ll recognize from other artists we recorded this year: Seabear keyboardist and amazing solo performer in her own right, Sóley Stefánsdóttir; Arnljótur Sigurðsson, who also plays bass and leads Ojba Rasta; and drummer Magnús Tryggvason Eliassen (Maggi) who performed in seven different bands we recorded this year, and more besides, including Tilbury, Moses Hightower, Monotown, and Borko. It’s a beautiful evolution to witness, as in the videos below, while Sin Fang performed newer and older songs live at KEX Hostel to a packed and adoring crowd. You can see more photos from the session here and read more about Sin Fang and listen to a new song we featured recently as a Song of the Day podcast here. But you need to watch these videos first:
