Congratulations to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose "Thrift Shop," rose to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 list this week and is No. 1 on the Billboard Digital Songs Chart, beating out the likes of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and others. The Lumineers continue to hold on with a No. 3 and No. 5 spots on those lists. Indie music is alive an well! [Billboard]

In about six weeks Wondrous Bughouse, the second album from Trevor Powers a.k.a. Youth Lagoon will be released via Fat Possum and today we get our first taste of it from the six minute "Dropla" which was released today. It's a dreamy, slightly paranoid and fantastical piece of music -- which is the same as could be expected from his debut, The Year of Hibernation. Powers's singular voice and the tension between the subtle beauty of the song and the frenetic, many-layered production elements keep the song at a high pitch throughout. Nothing is radically different, but if this is a good preview of the album then we can expect Wondrous Bughouse to be a little weirder, a little more ambitious and very very good. [Stereogum]

Beach Fossils have released a second single off of their upcoming February 19th Captured Tracks release, Clash the Truth. "Generational Synthetic" seems to indicate that the album is heavier, more bedroom punk, but in continuity with the surf-rock feel that has always been a part of the band's sound. This track sounds, more than previous Beach Fossils' songs, like it is better suited to their live show than it is on record (not that it's bad on record). Stream it below. [CoS]

The new video for Ty Segall's "Thank God For Sinners" is like a John Carpenter movie but instead of the hand built special effects and fleshy puppets there is the real fleshy fingers, arms, legs and torsos of real people contorting and bending into cool visual effects. [Stereogum]

Ab-Soul has dropped a video featuring Kendrick Lamar for "ILLuminate" off his 2012 Control System. The two rappers are from the Black Hippy group in Southern California, and are also two of the most talented MCs out there right now. The video posits a post-apocalyptic world where books, records, film and other forms are art are rare. Young people are building records players and cameras out of scraps of machinery, and creativity and inspiration are ephemeral and sacred. [Stereogum]

Thom Yorke has released an exclusive mix for Dazed & Confused's Dazed Digital of unreleased Radiohead material for The King of Limbs and unreleased Atoms For Peace material. This morning's release comes on the heels of a sort of prank last night, where Yorke and Nigel Godrich uploaded brand new Atoms For Peace songs to Soundcloud before immediately taking them down again. New Zealand psych-pop project Ruby Suns, who haven't released an album since 2010, have released another track, "In Real Life" from full-length Christopher due out January 29 on Sub Pop. "In Real Life" is a bit more dance-y than their previous stuff, but still seriously catchy and bodes well for the new LP. Stream it here. [Stereogum]
