Live Video: Veronica Falls

photo by Nate Watters (view set)

From their very first single, “Found Love in a Graveyard,” London by way of Glasgow band Veronica Falls set the tone of their future releases: their sunny take on gloomy topics makes for happy listening in the darkened Northwest, that’s for sure. Their 2011 self-titled debut channeled everyone from 60’s girl bands and 80’s gloom rockers like The Jesus & Mary Chain to psychedelic rockers like The Velvet Underground. On their forthcoming LP, Waiting for Something to Happen (already in KEXP’s rotation), Veronica Falls refines their lo-fi dark beach-pop sound, while brightening the mood a bit and tightening the rhythms. You can hear the band’s evolution (and even hear them talk about it a bit directly) during their live session from early 2012 at KEXP. Even then, they had their first single from this year’s release waiting to happen. Watch the videos from last February now:
