Live Video: Yo La Tengo

photo by Renata Steiner (view set)

It’s hard to think of another band that has not only lasted as long as but has also never lost their knack for sonic adventure like Yo La Tengo. After nearly 30 years, and through 13 studio albums and who knows how many singles and EPs, the Hoboken, NJ, trio still sounds like no one else, even with new producer John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake) on the boards. The new album is hardly what its title claims – on Fade, Yo La Tengo come out bold and strong as they blend a wide range of styles and influences, everything from trippy folk-rock, expansive psych and prog rock, and rich orchestral pop, all wrapped in the warm envelope of McEntire’s warm production. Recently, Yo La Tengo celebrated the release of their new album with a tour of free shows at record stores, just for fans. While in Seattle, they stopped by KEXP’s studio on the afternoon of their show on the last night of our already-missed Easy Street Queen Anne store. Check out the videos here:
