Rock-minded and artistic high schoolers in Washington and Oregon rejoice! Seattle’s Sub Pop Records is sitting on some scholarship money that they want to give to the right candidates — seniors on their way to higher education at an accredited university.
Standard procedure for internship applications apply, which means yeah, you’ve got to write an essay. However, this one sounds more fun than most. Here’s what they want to know:
What are you doing in the arts/music field in your community?
How and/or why did you become interested in artistic outlets?
How would this scholarship money help you to progress in your chosen field?
Musical artists of any stripe should take this opportunity very seriously. Not only will it look good to future employers and further your ability to succeed in the hard-to-break-into Seattle music scene, it will take a serious chunk out of your tuition. There are three scholarships — one for $6,000, one for $4,000 and one for $3,000. Coming from a soon-to-graduate eighth-year senior, this indeed will make a difference when paying back those loans after the skoolin’ is done.
