KEXP Suggests: Rainy Dawg's 10th Anniversary!

You don't have to be a DJ, or even relate to anything on this list, to go to University of Washington's Rainy Dawg Radio's  excellently curated 10th Anniversary Party this Thursday the 23rd - they've managed to captured many of Seattle's local sounds in one show. From the electro-soul of Natasha Kmeto, to the howling reverb of Captured Tracks signees Naomi Punk, to the single-minded punk pop of Ponytime, they pretty much nailed the PNW music scene - and that's not even half the bands playing. Not to mention they've got support from so many excellent Seattle institutions including the seminal Sub Pop Records, the recently quietly created Hush Hush Records, artists and collaborators CMRTYZ, DIY art space Cairo, and more. Not to mention pretty much all of these musicians have done in-studio session at KEXP over the years. Check them all out below.

Notorious for collaborations with Lil B, Keyboard Kid has been compared to Clams Casino (he's a huge fan) and made a video that pairs his spooky track "#BASEDEXORCISM" with recreated Twin Peaks footage.

Just last summer I didn't know who Natasha Kmeto was, now I can't imagine not knowing - her absolutely radiant smile she had on throughout her entire LFTF Decibel showcase is permanently burned into my mind. Not only was the dropping searingly well crafted tracks, but the entire room as dancing alongside her. Since then she's released "Crisis," and I can't wait to see her again.

While you can't see their faces in the video for "Burned Body", from their LP The Feeling on Captured Tracks last year ,below - you might recognize Naomi Punk if you've been walking around Seattle at any time in the past year or so. Their signature peasant/punk hairdos are perfect for the raw, ear burningly loud, almost corrosive music they make. You'll be wishing your hair was a bit easier to shake around when you're sweating through their set.

The only trick Jarv Dee has up his sleeve is his classic style of snarky rap filled with smoke breaks, laid down with seamlessly clean beats. Part of the Moor Gang Collective, Jarv Dee has collaborate with Kingdom Crumbs and Nacho Picasso, and this fall he will release Moor Bible: The Book of Jarv.

I haven't stopped listening to Ponytime new album since they dropped "Geordie" a few months ago - Go Find Your Own is the perfect anthem for college radio. Find your own music, find your own place, find your own! It's pretty much the most excellent nasally witty punk I've heard this year.

Key Nyata's got that slow-mo, trapped in a dream, fuzzy kind of rap that mingles words like "relapse" with "collapse" as easily as images of the garden of Eden with smoking kush. Need more? The Stranger's got definitions covered.

If for some reason you aren't already sweaty from this line up - Futurewife is here with bass driven disco beats to make you move. I don't know that much about the PYT Records project, except that I've ended up at one of his shows before and spent the whole time dancing. He has a handful of mixes from the past year, you can check them out at his soundcloud.
