I know I covered Soul Asylum in this space not too long ago, but I just couldn't resist sharing this delightful cover (Soul Asylum's take on a much-parodied Herb Alpert album cover) with you all, and with another legendary Minneapolis band in the news today, it seemed like as good a time as any. Everything I could say about this release is covered in the very helpful DJ comments, so let's just get to it, shall we?

"Point #1: This came out last year in the UK, w/3 orig. & 3 covers. This version drops 2 of the covers & replaces them with rerecordings of 2 early SA songs (2-1 & 2-3). Sounds like they've regressed even further into their '70s roots, esp. on side 2. Point #2: The cover, front and back, is a parody of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass' Whipped Cream & Other Delights, which had a nude woman sitting in a mountain of whipped cream."

"Did they get dumped from A&M?"

"They're still on A&M, but TwinTone had the rights to this before they signed to A&M. A&M doesn't seem too happy w/them though. (Thank God.)"

"Looks like lox spread to me."

"Right on!"

"'P-9' is great."
