At some point as an art-rock outfit, a band surpasses the need to surpass themselves. The Flaming Lips have just released a pared down and grainy video for the immersive "Turning Violet" from their latest album, The Terror. Primordial vocals emerge from deep in a Turrell-esque white room before lines of colored lights erupt like ribbons, only to be reflected back onto the band by huge eyelike foil orbs. In other words, pretty much what you'd expect from the 'flips. [Stereogum]

Among the impressive list of artists releasing track through Adult Swim this summer is Autre Ne Veut, who recently released Anxiety, with his single "On & On". In keeping with his emotionally wrought but somehow still sexy R&B vibes, the track is full of breathy rhythmic vocals and clattering drums. [Adult Swim]

Hopefully, you didn't miss J Mascis at Sub Pop's Silver Jubilee on Saturday, but in case you did you can hear his cover of covers Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" at Pitchfork. If you want to own a physical copy, you'll have to buy the Dinosaur Jr. inspired sneakers from Keep - the cover is included as a bonus 7" picture disk with the shoes.

Unfathomably deep voiced glitch-trucker Daughn Gibson has a new hyper-real video for "Kissing on the Blacktop". Could the up close faces of the down-by-the-river dive bar get any clearer? No, because odds are if you made it all the way to this backroads bar, you would have had more than a few stiff drinks. A little bit Lynch and a lotta bit unquantifiably spooky, the video has no kissing but quite a bit of eerie portraiture. [Stereogum]

Kid Smpl debuted the title track from his upcoming EP, Amour, over at Yours Truly. It's an ambient piece that submerges the listener deep beneath an ocean of summer. Swim out in the sun, dive down as far as you can before you turn back to the surface, follow the pressure and lights flickering above you, emerge in a summer rain where water returns to water and the shore is visible in the distance. As a reflection of the EP to come, this song is essential to hear right now.

What happens when an alien egg-sack gives birth to three rollerblading hooligans? Austra's video for their track "Painful Like" shows us - although I'm not sure if maybe the television video of Austra performing is maybe the rollerblading aliens' parents? Perhaps their muse? Either way the video is somehow perfect for the track, and dayglo is something we haven't yet seen much of this year. [Stereogum]

TV on the Radio's David Sitek aka "David Andrew Sitek vs Otis Pear" has taken on Yeah Yeah Yeahs' song "Despair". The result is a jangling tambourine heavy remix that plays more with the "light" than the "darkness" in the track. Surprisingly, though, the remix does the song amazing justice with the addition of a horn line and a xylophone. Stream the remix over at Pitchfork.
