Tuesday Music News

  • David Bowie has decided to spread the love a few months early this year. He’s released the music video for the track “Valentine’s Day” off of his recent album, The Next Day. The video doesn’t try to overwhelm you with visuals, there’s just Bowie and his guitar. The simplicity really allows you to notice just how great Bowie looks and sounds after so many decades of performing. His talent seems to be immortal. [CoS]

  • Los Angeles duo No Age will drop their newest LP, An Object, on August 20. To generate some buzz they’ve previewed the track “An Impression”. It’s a smooth and airy song with an amazing moment of string instruments that really jumps out at you. The band seems like they’re not afraid to venture into some exciting new territory with this album. [Pitchfork]

  • It’s refreshing when artists don’t take themselves too seriously. Detroit indie pop band Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. lets their sense of humor shine in their “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dance Floor)” music video from Funny or Die. Watch them easily evade two not so observant cops with their incredibly creative camouflage. [Stereogum]

  • Canadian rap producer Black Noi$e chose to take Unknown Mortal Orchestra‘s lovely song “So Good at Being In Trouble” and infuse it will the heavy raps of Killer Mike and Mr. MFN eXquire. Talk about a musical 180. The combination is nothing if not interesting. See what you think, listen below. [Stereogum]

  • Ben Shepherd, bassist and songwriter for Soundgarden, has shared the track “Collide” from his debut album, In Deep Owl (set to release on August 27). His solo sound is much more acoustic than the heavy grunge we’re used to hearing from Soundgarden. The folksy mandolin and Shepherd’s serene vocals really speak to his versatility as an musician.
