Friday Music News

  • Last year Frankie Rose, formerly of the dream pop bands Vivian Girls/Crystal Stilts/Dum Dum Girls, stepped into her own solo career and released her breezy debut album, Interstellar. This September she will follow it up with Herein Wild and today we have the first single to sink our teeth into. “Sorrow” is an effervescent, glittering track despite what you might expect from its name. • Palma Violets made their US television debut last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The British rockers really brought the energy and intensity to their songs “Best of Friends” and “Rattlesnake Highway.” Check out both performances below. [CoS]

  • Canadian producer CFCF, aka Michael Silver, is pumping out new music faster than I can even begin to handle. Last month he dropped an EP and now he’s working on a full length collection, that should be out this October, entitled Outside. To highlight his quick music making prowess he’s dropped the track “Jump Out Of The Train” from the upcoming album. [Stereogum]

  • The estate of the late J Dilla will release The Diary, unheard tracks he recorded in the early 2000s sometime this year. The collection was supposed to drop this spring, but we continue to wait with bated breath. To hold us over we have the soulful single “Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1).” [Pitchfork]
