This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole, is “Another Summer”, the 2013 single by Seattle band Stag on Fin Records.

Stag - Another Summer (MP3)

Consisting of five power pop lifers, Seattle's Stag pays tribute to the bright power chords of the 70s by bringing as much enthusiasm to their songs as they do finesse. Consisting of vocalist Steve Mack, guitarists Ben London and Lincoln Barr, bassist Pete Everett, and drummer Rob Dent, the five local veterans first got together in late 2010 over their love of Cheap Trick/Raspberries/Buzzcocks-style songwriting, and soon after, they were in the studio with Jack Endino, who produced the band's second EP. A self-titled full length and some local dates followed, and last month, the band released a one-off single. Not too different than Superchunk's post-adolescence ode "This Summer", "Another Summer" is a reflective anthem that exudes youthfulness in every thick power chord. From the start, the drums are punchy and the guitars are up to eleven, setting a perfect stage for Mack and London to lay down a powerful vocal and guitar solo, respectively. "Deceived by reality/guess it's time to join a band," smirks Mack in the song's final verse, before he and his bandmates bring down one more sunset to close out the season.

Stag don't have any dates listed at the moment, but you can keep up with the band on their website and Facebook to hear about their next live shows. Watch the band play "Don't Lead With Your Heart" live on KEXP in December 2012 below.
