It’s time again for Friday on My Mind, our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News.

Today, we are kicking off our 2013 Fall Donor Drive and asking all of you to help keep KEXP listener powered. Thanks to the thoughtful and generous monthly donations made by those in our Amplifiers Club, we were able to eliminate one of our yearly drives. If you are already a donor, thank you! If you still need to become one or renew your donation, there is no better time than right now. Our goal will only be possible with your help. You'll also really want to tune in during this drive because beginning at noon tomorrow, we are going to be counting down the top albums released since the year 2000 as voted on by all of you- the listeners! Here are a few of my personal favorites from the past 13 years that I hope make the list. And according to our end of the year countdowns over the last decade or so, these choices have also been favorites of the KEXP community as well. And now, here they are:

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

The duo of Jack and Meg White, aka The White Stripes are one of indie music’s poster children. Originally hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Meg and Jack are no longer performing or recording, but we are still floored by their 2003 effort Elephant. Here is the dizzying video to accompany the first single from the album, “Seven Nation Army”...

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?

My next prediction for the countdown is the 2002 album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. One of the singles off of the album, “Do You Realize?” is one of most popular and accessible songs released by The Flaming Lips to date. In fact, Oklahoma loved the song so much that it made “Do You Realize” the official rock song of the state for four years.

Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)

We use to throw an annual benefit show for the station which took place in December called the Yule Benefit (get it? you’ll benefit? Get it? uh... yeah). We put on -- of these and in 2004 during our second installment of the Yule Benefit, a little known Canadian band that we were championing agreed to headline the show. That band was the Arcade Fire and the album we were playing was Funeral. Arcade Fire have managed to keep busy over the last nine years after gracing the Neumo’s stage as a benefit for KEXP. In fact, their latest and fourth full length album, Reflektor, which is produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, is set to be released in record stores on October 29th. Here is the official video for the song “Rebellion (Lies)” from their 2004 debut Funeral...
