Friday Music News

  • Recently, Chvrches was featured on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. While they were there, the Scottish trio turned out a very interesting cover of Whitney Houston‘s dance hit “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.” She may not have the powerhouse vocals of Houston, but Lauren Mayberry’s ethereal innocence really takes this “cheating anthem” to another level. • The Killers have shared the music video for their new song “Shot at the Night,” which was produced by M83‘s Anthony Gonzales. The video tells the age-old story of a hotel maid who catches the eye of a wealthy, young man. The unlikely duo spend an eventful evening together that even includes a romantic Vespa ride surrounded by the Las Vegas lights. [CoS]

  • Albert Hammond Jr., of The Strokes, won’t be releasing his solo EP AHJ until October 8, but today we have the chance to listen to the lead single, “Bad Customer.” It’s got all the makings of a perfect rock jam: fierce guitar, wailing vocals, and thumping drums. Judging by this one sample, Hammond’s EP is definitely on the right track. [Stereogum]

  • Every month Twin Shadow debuts a new cover as a part of his “UNDER THE CVRS” series. This time he decided to take on Tori Amos‘ “Silent All These Years” from her 1991 album Little Earthquakes. See what you think of his somber take on this classic. [Pitchfork]

  • Here’s a adorable little moment to help get you through the homestretch to the weekend. Queens of the Stone Age’s Dean Ferita and Josh Homme were interviewed by two adorable 7th graders as part of the series “Kids Interview Bands”. I take my hat off to Connie and Olivia for asking the hard hitting questions about Halloween and Celine Dion. [CoS]
