Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This week, we present songs by artists performing the 2014 Iceland Airwaves Music Festival. Today’s featured song is “Poem Found in the Pocket of an Amazon” by My bubba from the forthcoming album Goes Abroader on Fake Diamond Records.
This isn’t the first time we’ve featured My bubba in the last year, but the stars have all aligned for you to hear them again. The Swedish/Icelandic duo of “My” and “Bubba”, who are now just calling themselves My bubba, are not only going to play live on KEXP during our Iceland Airwaves broadcast this week but are also ready to release a new album. The duo originally met in Denmark and started making “sensual folk” together. They’re following up one full album and last year’s excellent EP, which we featured in February, with the new full-length, Goes Abroader. “Poem Found in the Pocket of an Amazon” is the first single from it and highlights their adventurous spirit and alluringly sultry sounds. One listen and you’ll undoubtedly get lost in their exotic charm.
My bubba will perform live on KEXP from KEX Hostel in Reykjavik on Thursday, October 31, at 8AM PST. Find out more about our broadcast during Iceland Airwaves here and more about My bubba on their website and Facebook page. For now, here’s a live version we recorded last year of “Through & Through”:
