While KEXP was in NYC for CMJ, a few of us (Stacy, Victoria and Kat) headed to San Francisco for Treasure Island Music Festival. This was the seventh year SF’s Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment put this two day party together, and it gets better every year.
Atoms for Peace headlined Saturday, which is mostly electronic with some hip hop...
Beck headlined the more guitar driven indie rock/pop Sunday...
Since the island has limited parking, we boarded the free shuttle bus, everyone excited, and sharing recommendations...
Some gals we met on Muni enroute to the shuttle were raving about Robert DeLong, a Bothell native now residing in L.A. He was super fun and energetic. We caught most of his set as we entered the festival...
What makes TIMF so special is the setting and the people. The costumes were a show all their own...
Also, there’s so much to do. If you need a break from the live music, there were free massages, face painting, loads of shopping stalls, the SILENT DISCO!, several craft booths, robot dance parties, an interactive art installations, The Jerk Church Tabernacle Choir, The Purple Ones (a Prince cover band) and a FERRIS WHEEL!
We enjoyed the ferris wheel during Disclosure’s set...

Sunday’s highlights included STRFKR, who brought the party!
HAIM had the biggest hair (and crowd for the small stage) of the afternoon...
Stacy loved James Blake’s set (notice Blake’s gloves, it was getting pretty cold by then)...
Japandroids rocked the small stage with their Canadian pop punk thrills.
Victoria was excited to see Animal Collective, who drew one of the festival's more unexpected and inspired dance parties...
Kat went nuts for Sleigh Bells, who'd just released Bitter Rivals on October 8th. Alexis Krauss bounced out like a boxer in a robe trimmed with leopard satin. Sleigh Bells' Derek Miller filled out their touring band with guitarists Jayson Boyer and Ryan Primack, and drummer Chris Maggio. Their fantastic set included "Rill Rill," "Infinity Guitars," as well as new material. So crazy!
Beck closed out the festival, leaving folks absolutely thrilled...
