Wednesday Music News

  • Happy Thanksgiving! Or, “Thankskilling,” if you ask Morrissey, who has penned an open letter to President Obama accusing him of laughing “as 45 million birds are horrifically abused.” Read the whole thing online here: [Pitchfork]

  • It’s been a month, so it must be time for a new album from Guided By Voices! Stream the track “Littlest League Possible” below, which frontman Robert Pollard tells Rolling Stone is a metaphor about his lack of desire to compete with other bands. “No competition, no pressure, no rules. The way I do things now is an absolute blast.” Motivational Jumpsuit is out February 18th on Guided By Voices Inc. in North America, and Fire Records overseas. [Rolling Stone]

  • If you follow them on Instagram, you already know, but Spoon are currently hard at work on their eighth album. Frontman Britt Daniel told Spin Magazine that the new album sounds “slightly more R&B.” We look forward to hearing the new songs (played twice in a row on DJ Cheryl Waters’ show) in 2014. [Consequence of Sound]
  • Speaking of Merge Records veterans, Superchunk have released a new video for the track “Void” capturing that “old guy at the club” situation. Directed by Scott Jacobson (of TV show Bob’s Burgers), the video also stars Jon Benjamin, Jon Glaser, Ted Travelstead, and bands Ava Luna and Lost Boy. [Stereogum]

  • German synthpop pioneers Kraftwerk have announced a Los Angeles residency at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. From March 18th through 21st, the band will present all eight of their studio albums in full. [Consequence of Sound]
