  • Common has yet to announce the release date for his upcoming LP, Nobody Smiling, but today he has shared the LP track “War.” The album delves into the heartbreaking violence in his hometown of Chicago. This first song focuses on the similarities of the children being killed in Chicago and in wars all over the world. [Stereogum]

  • Twin Shadow, aka George Lewis, has carried his flawless Under the Cvrs YouTube series into the new year by covering 112‘s R&B hit “Cupid.” Lewis’ version has a more breathy, ethereal feel but it retains the smooth soul of the original. [CoS]

  • Philadelphia band A Sunny Day in Glasgow have shared “In Love With Useless (The Timeless Geometry In The Tradition Of Passing),” their first new material in over three years. They’re back in a vengeance. It’s an aggressive, shoegaze sound that shows an entire new side of the band. Can’t wait to hear what they drop next. [Stereogum]

  • Last week I wrote about Starbucks’ love-song compilation album, Sweethearts 2014. Vampire Weekend has contributed a stunning cover of Andea Bocelli‘s Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro).” While a physical copy may only be available at Starbucks, the album will be released digitally on Valentine’s Day. I know this seems like quite the tall order for the NY rockers to pull off, but listen below and be pleasantly surprised. [Pitchfork]
