Since Kim Deal left, iconic band The Pixies have had a public struggle trying to replace her. And in a recent interview with Brooklyn Vegan, drummer David Lovering acknowledges that Deal is irreplaceable: "Basically, no-one can replace Kim Deal. It would be impossible to do." Kim Shattuck of the Muffs was initially brought in as a substitute, followed by current bassist Paz Lenchantin, who has previously played with Zwan and A Perfect Circle. The new line-up will perform February 18th at The Paramount Theatre, and live on The Morning Show on KEXP that day at 9:30 AM PT. [Brooklyn Vegan]

On last night’s episode of the Late Show With David Letterman, John Grant stopped by to perform the track "GMF (Greatest Living Creature)" off last year's release Pale Green Ghosts. Watch him perform what Letterman calls, "the loveliest song he's ever heard about a motherfucker." [Stereogum]

Brooklyn band Woods are releasing their eighth studio album, With Light and With Love, on April 15th on their own Woodsist Records. In the press release, the band state the new album will feature, "singing saw, heavier emphasis on percussion, and a saloon piano.” Check it out the track "Leaves Like Glass" below. Northampton, MA, band Speedy Ortiz continue the '90s college-rock revival with the Real Hair EP, coming out February 11th via Carpark Records. Stream the track "American Horror" below. Appropriately enough, they're opening for former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks on Saturday, April 12th at The Neptune. [Stereogum]
