The Song That’s Shaking Me with Richard Buckner

KEXP asks our favorite musicians, “What is the one song that is ruling your world right now?”

Richard Buckner: That would have to be “Now That I Know” by Ted Lucas. It’s a song from the mid-’70s. He made one record, and now he’s not here anymore. On the record, it’s him and an autoharp. And the whole album’s great — it’s called The OM Album. If you think of Nick Drake and John Fahey, with this weird combination of beautiful noises and sounds. It was reissued, but before that, no one really knew about this guy. I saw it in this store in New York, and picked it up because the cover looked slightly familiar. I thought, “Where do I know this from?” Turns out, it was the guy who did all those album covers for Journey in the ’80s!

Richard Buckner’s eleventh album Surrounded is out now on Merge Records.
