Live Video: The Besnard Lakes

Some bands are really hard to pin down, especially when they sound like they’re from another world. Take The Besnard Lakes. The Montreal band’s influences are so diverse that listing a few neglects a much wider range. KEXP’s Music Director, Don Yates, nearly hits it by describing their latest release as “elegant, atmospheric rock, featuring shimmering, slow-burning songs with a cavernous, densely textured sound combining reverbed guitars, hazy keyboards, stately rhythms and heavenly harmonies.” As they explained to DJ Cheryl Waters during a recent session live in the KEXP studio, they once filtered a French concert review of theirs through Google Translator and got the description “Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO,” which they felt works too, and that became the title of the group’s fourth album. Watch The Besnard Lakes perform their otherworldly tracks from that album on The Midday Show here:
