Wednesday Music News

  • In quite possibly the best music news of the day (IMHO), Parquet Courts have unveiled the music video to the track “Sunbathing Animal,” starring the inspiration for that song, Frida, beloved cat companion to frontman Andrew Savage. The song is also the title track of the band’s forthcoming album, out June 3rd in the U.S. on What’s Your Rupture/Mom+Pop Records. Watch below: [Pitchfork]

  • Not quite as cute as a mustachioed cat named Frida, but Courtney Barnett has shared the video for the track “Anonymous Club” animated by artist Celeste Potter. Watch the magical collaboration below, and see Courtney live, opening for Sharon Van Etten, on Saturday, July 5th at the Neptune. [Under the Radar]

  • Maybe you can’t write songs as catchy as Mac DeMarco, but maybe you can catch bugs like him…uh, ew. The Brooklyn-via-Canada artist has inspired the new video game Squish’Em, where you pick the cigarette of your choice (Marlboro, Lucky Strike, or Viceroy), and then you get 15 seconds to stub out as many bugs as you can. Um, good luck! [Consequence of Sound]
  • The clock is ticking towards Record Store Day, and more limited edition releases are being unveiled, like this 7″ single of UK band Django Django covering The Monkees 1968 track “Porpoise Song.” Check it out below, and keep an eye out for it this Saturday! [Stereogum]

  • Local cowboy Brent Amaker has teamed up with electronic producer Vox Mod for his new identity: Android Amaker. Check out their debut track “I’m the One” below. [The Stranger’s Line Out]

  • Seattle’s own London Bridge Studios is trying to raise money to restore its rare mixing board. The console is a 1973 Neve 8048 model, and it’s been used on such monumental albums as Soundgarden‘s Louder Than Love and Pearl Jam‘s Ten. The historic console was also used on albums by Fleet Foxes, Death Cab for Cutie, and Cat Power. The fundraiser, ran through Indiegogo, ends this Saturday, so check out their prizes while you can.
