Unless you've got a bad case of phonophobia, Big Scary isn't too terrifying. Featuring Joanna Syme on percussion and heavenly-voiced Tom Iansek on guitar and keyboards, the Melbourne-based duo has broken the mold for Australian music. Their 2013 album, Not Art, was nominated for the triple j Australian Album of the Year award, AIR Awards Best Independent Album, as well as Best Independent Release at the ARIAs, and it's just been released here on Seattle's own Barsuk Records. Now that they're gaining the attention they deserve, Big Scary is tearing through the U.S. as part of an international tour. They recently passed through Seattle, but you can watch the two, along with Seattle musician and tourmate Eric Elbogen from Say Hi, as they perform songs from Not Art live in the KEXP studio:
