  • It’s an unlikely cover, but it’s for a great cause: Moby gives his spin to the Duran Duran classic “Rio.” The track appears on a tribute album to the ’80s icons titled Making Patterns Rhyme that’ll be out this July on Manimal Vinyl. Other artists on the comp include Warpaint, Little Dragon, Crocodiles, and more. All sales go to benefit Amnesty International, so take a listen below. [Consequence of Sound]

  • This is supposed to take place in 2024, but Conor Oberst looks as young as ever in the new video for the track, “Zigzagging Toward the Light” off his latest, Upside Down Mountain. Watch below. Conor will be playing September 30th at the Showbox at the Market. [Pitchfork]

  • It’s the end of an era: Spoon are leaving their home of Merge Records for Universal-distributed Loma Vista Records, who will be releasing the band’s eighth album soon. Lately, the words “SPOON R.I.P. JUNE 10″ have been appearing on billboards and social media, which could be the album release date. Stay tuned for more details. [Stereogum]
  • Local pop trio Tomten give us a sneak peek at their forthcoming album, The Farewell Party, out August 19th on Versicolor Records; stream the track “Pipe Dream Boy” below. Tomten play this Thursday at the Tractor Tavern, opening for The Papercuts and Eric Johnson of the Fruit Bats. [The Stranger's Line Out]

  • And finally, in sadder local music news, Rafael Anton Irisarri (aka the Sight Below) recently lost nearly everything he owns when his moving truck was stolen on Monday, May 26th around 4:17 AM. The Stranger has a list of every piece of musical equipment now missing. Keep an eye on Craigslist, eBay, and local pawn shops. [The Stranger's Line Out]
