Monday Music News

  • Last month, we shared Moby’s version of “Rio,” and today, we’ve got Warpaint‘s stark, moody cover of Duran Duran’s “The Chauffeur.” These covers will be available on the tribute album Making Patterns Rhyme: A Tribute to Duran Duran, out July 15th on Manimal Vinyl. All sales go to benefit Amnesty International. [Pitchfork]

  • We’ve got more new music from Morrissey from his forthcoming beautifully-titled album, World Peace Is None of Your Business, out July 15th. The sentiment behind “The Bullfighter Dies” won’t surprise any Moz fans (spoiler alert: he’s glad), and the song has the bouncy cadence of his 1989 solo single “Interesting Drug.” Check it out: [Under the Radar]

  • Swedish sisters First Aid Kit stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman last week for a beautiful performance of “My Silver Lining” that had Letterman offering to move to Stockholm. Watch below. They’ll be stopping by Seattle, playing November 15th at The Moore Theatre. [Consequence of Sound]

  • Jersey boys The Gaslight Anthem have announced a new album on the way: their fifth album, Get Hurt, was recorded in Nashville and is due for a August 16th release date on Mercury. Hear some new music in the trailer below. [Stereogum]

  • It’s hard to believe this is the debut solo track from famed producer and TV on the Radio guitarist, Dave Sitek, but after all the work he’s done with and for others, he’s finally ventured out on his own. Check out the song “God Damn Beauty” below. No official releases are currently being planned, but TV on the Radio will release a new album later this year. [Under the Radar]

  • And, finally, in sad news, radio legend Casey Kasem passed away over the weekend at the age of 82 after a struggle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. He was an inductee of the National Radio Hall of Fame, and had received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during his long, inspirational career. We’ll keep reaching for the stars, Casey.
