  • As Jimi Hendrix‘s hometown, Seattle was fortunate to get a sneak peek at his biopic, Jimi: All Is By My Side, earlier this year during the Seattle International Film Festival. (Read more about that Opening Night Gala here.) Today we have the film’s first official trailer to share below. Outkast’s André 3000 turns in a fantastic lead performance as the legendary guitarist. The film opens nationwide on September 26th. [Pitchfork]

  • It’s hard to believe there’s still unheard Nick Drake music out there, but a reel of six previously unheard recordings is going up for auction on July 31st. London-based auction house Ted Owen & Company declare these “pristine master tapes” were recorded in 1968, pre-dating Drake’s debut album Five Leaves Left. The tapes were in the possession of UK folk singer Beverley Martyn, who reportedly mentored the young Drake in the beginning of his career. [Rolling Stone]
  • If you caught DJ Cheryl Waters annual Canada Day show earlier this week, you know Owen Pallett loves to help out his fellow Canucks, from Arcade Fire to The Hidden Cameras. Now we can add Toronto project Foxes in Fiction to that list. Listen to Pallett’s lovely violin playing on the track “Shadow’s Song” below, out 9/23 on the full-length Ontario Gothic via Orchid Tapes. [Stereogum]

  • Chicago trio Shellac, led by infamous producer/musician Steve Albini, have announced they’re releasing their first new album in eight years, the appropriately-titled Dude Incredible. The nine-track album will be out September 16th on Touch & Go Records, and according to the press release, “Other than the informational sheet you hold in your hand (or virtual hand), this record will have no formal promotion. There will be no advertisements, no press or radio promotion, no e-promotion, no promotional or review copies, no promotional gimmick items, and otherwise no free lunch.” Dude. Watch the band play the title track below, from a 2009 All Tomorrow’s Parties performance. [Consequence of Sound]
