Song of the Day: Garotas Suecas - Bucolismo

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today’s song, featured on The Afternoon Show with DJ Kevin Cole, is “Bucolismo” by Garotas Suecas from the 2013 album Feras Miticas on Munster Records.

Garotas Suecas, Portugese for Swedish Girls, are an alternative rock outfit from Rio De Janeiro comprised of five men and one woman. They've been rocking the southern hemisphere since 2005, but have recently started gaining a cult following in the northern parts of the world, where they're lesser known. Now, with two albums and three EPs floating around the internet, the band's gaining respect and appreciation for their projects. Their most recent release, Feras Miticas, is a fresh, jaw-dropping combination of artists like Jamiroquai, Os Mutantaes, Jackson 5, and Sly & The Family Stone. Today's Song of the Day, part reggae, part funk, and part soft-rock, "Bucolismo," meaning bucolic in English, is a genre-defying track off of Feras Miticas. There's a soothing backbeat, plenty of wah-wah, and a complementary brass section that's just downright groovy. At the song's best, the layers of the track fuse in harmony to create something that's totally seductive. Plus, the title of the song's an apt one: without a doubt, it captures the mood of a pleasant day in the Brazilian countryside.
