  • Five years ago, Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch dropped God Help the Girl, an album of songs that he planned to use for a musical movie. Well the film, which stars Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) finally has the release date of September 5 in the US. Listen to Browning sing the film’s dreamy, title track below. [Pitchfork]

  • Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li shared the music video for the I Never Learn track “Gunshot.” The scenery of a post-apocalyptic parking lot and Lykke dancing like a reanimated corpse only elevates an already powerful song. [Stereogum]

  • As we all know with Garden State, Zach Braff has great taste in music, so when it came to the soundtrack for his second film Wish I Was Here, I knew he would not disappoint. Not only does the movie feature tracks from The Shins and Bon Iver, but the film’s title track may be the most impressive of all. Cat Power and Coldplay’s Chris Martin flawless harmony in “Wish I Was Here” is unreal. [CoS]

  • “Weird Al” Yankovic has taken a stand against today’s horrible grammar. His newest track, “Word Crimes,” parodies Robin Thicke’s standout hit “Blurred Lines” and features the hilarious lyrics, “Go back to preschool/ Get out of the gene pool.” Check out the informative lyric video below. • Bay Area singer/songwriter Chuck Prophet has announced his thirteenth studio album, Night Surfer, due September 23 on Yep Roc Records. In advance of the release, he’s premiered the first single, “Wish Me Luck”, at the Wall Street Journal.
