We couldn't describe Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires' recent Sub Pop debut any better than label co-founder Jonathan Poneman himself, who claims in his own press release for the album, "Dereconstructed is a careening, road raging, all night party of a record", adding that even frontman Bains' "hyper literate musings are no match for the blown out distortion that gives this record its blistering urgency." There's more about "Rod Stewart’s stomach pump" and other colorful laudations, but the gist is that Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires rock the hell out and add to the growing renaissance of smart, forward-thinking but backward-thanking young artists in Birmingham, Alabama. And sure enough, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires tore it up during a recent in-studio live in The Roadhouse with Greg Vandy.
