  • Founding member Chris Walla has announced he’s leaving Death Cab for Cutie. In a statement he shared with The Stranger, Walla says “Deciding to leave the band was not, and is not, easy. It’s really, really sad. I love my bandmates, and I’m proud of what we’ve done, and mercifully, those things don’t change with my departure. Moving forward, my plans are simply to continue making music, producing records, and erring on the side of benevolence and beauty whenever possible. Darkness may find me, but I shall never choose it.” [The Stranger]

  • Breakout 22-year-old guitarist Benjamin Booker stopped by Conan last night for a blistering rendition of “Have You Seen My Son” from his self-titled debut out 8/19 via ATO/Rough Trade. Booker will also be LIVE on KEXP with real-time video streaming on Thursday, August 14th at 1:00 PM PST. [Consequence of Sound]

  • Castle Face Records, a label founded by Thee Oh Sees frontman John Dwyer, has announced the new initiative “Castle Face for the Incarcerated,” where they will send any CDs from their catalog to prisoners in the U.S., free of charge. The initiative was inspired by the Ascetic House Collective, who are working towards prison reform. Find out more about the project here. [Pitchfork]
  • Yesterday saw the release of the sophomore full-length from Finnish singer-songwriter Mirel Wagner, titled When The Cellar Children See The Light Of Day. Today, Sub Pop Records shares a haunting clip for the track “The Dirt,” co-directed by Wagner and Aki Roukala. Watch below: [Stereogum]
