What brought two already well known and respected artists together to collaborate on a new project? The internet, of course. Though Aimee Mann and Ted Leo shared a casual friendship and a liking for each other's music, they bonded over things "#dumb" on Twitter. Eventually, a 140-character comedic repartee turned into a tour, and a tour led to the collaboration that is The Both. Combining their individual strengths – Leo's punchy pop and Mann's more glossy laid back style – with their shared penchant for smart and emotive lyrics, the two give The Both the best of both worlds on their self-titled LP. And that is exactly what they also gave the crowd in the packed Music Lounge during KEXP's broadcast during Bumbershoot last month.
