  • Late last month, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists took to the streets of Brooklyn to announce the Portland band’s new album, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, will be out January 20th on Capitol Records. Today, we’ve got the studio version of the track “Make You Better” to share, and it’s even dreamier and lusher than the live version Meloy introduced on the Williamsburg street corner. Listen below. • UK band Elbow share a new video for the track “Charge,” which ends up being more of a documentary-style look at motorcycle racing. The clip captures UK speedway rider Craig Cook and former champion and current team co-owner Chris Morton, members of the Manchester-based motorcycle team Belle Vue Aces. It’s an elegant video, which you can watch below. The track appears on the band’s most recent album, The Take Off And Landing of Everything. [Under the Radar]

  • Olympia, WA band Naomi Punk debut a video for the title track off their second album, Television Man, out now on Captured Tracks. The clip depicts geometric shapes swirled with images of bodybuilders in a kaleidoscopic whirl. Check it out below: [Stereogum]

  • Website Dangerous Minds recently uncovered a fascinating mix tape Kurt Cobain cobbled together in 1988 using nothing but a four-track cassette recorder. Titled “Montage of Heck,” Cobain created this audio collage of songs, sounds, and snippets in the year before Nirvana’s 1989 debut, Bleach. It’s a pretty cool look at some of his earliest influences. Listen below. [Consequence of Sound]
