Over on the airwaves, KEXP will feature 12 hours of programming centered around World Aids Day. Once an hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the on-air DJ will highlight at least one artist (including Fela Kuti, Freddie Mercury, and Eazy-E) who has passed away from AIDS-related complications and discuss their history, their impact, and their music. The World AIDS Day programming on KEXP aims to raise awareness of the effect of AIDS on cultures across the globe, to highlight and celebrate some key musicians who have succumbed to the disease, and to show that, despite the advances in treatment and awareness made in the last two decades, there is still much work to be done.

Participating Wo’ Pop World AIDS Day partners: Lifelong, EMP Museum, East African Community Services, Fred Hutchinson, One Vibe Africa, BABES Network YWCA, Theo Chocolates, and with generous support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
