  • Issaquah hometown heroes Modest Mouse returned to late night TV after six years with a stop by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Watch them perform the track “Lampshades on Fire” off their first new album in eight years, Strangers to Ourselves. You can catch the mice on Saturday, May 23rd at the Sasquatch Music Festival, and keep track of all these late night television musical highlights with KEXP’s TV Eye column. [Consequence of Sound]

  • You didn’t have to stay up late to catch Courtney Barnett on Ellen earlier this week. The beloved daytime talk show host called Barnett “one of my favorite new artists — I love her so much”. Watch the young Aussie perform the song “Depreston,” a gentle track from her upcoming release Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit below, out March 24th via Mom + Pop. Hear Courtney’s version of the track for KEXP that same day at Noon PT, when DJ Cheryl Waters airs a session the band recorded for us back in October. [Spin]

  • As we shared earlier this month, LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has composed the soundtrack for the new Noah Baumbach film While We’re Young. The film stars Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Driver, and Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock. Today, you can stream the track “We Used to Dance”. The soundtrack will be out March 24th via Milan Records, and the movie itself hits screens on March 27th. [Pitchfork]

  • Retirement schmirement. At the age of 80, legendary singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen is not slowing down. On May 12th, he’ll release Can’t Forget: A Souvenir of the Grand Tour, a 10-track album of live performances culled from his recent Old Ideas world tour. The release features never-before-recorded covers of Georges Dor and George Jones, as well as two previously unreleased songs, such as the one you can stream below “Never Gave Nobody Trouble.” [Consequence of Sound]
