Of the experiences that KEXP listeners tell us they value most, the intimate, personal interactions between artists and fans always ranks the highest. In our interviews and in-studio videos, we try to get as close to the heart as possible, but occasionally we are able to dive further into the creative process with individuals like multi-award winning producer, composer and musician Daniel Lanois, who spent an evening with a small group of KEXP donors at Seattle's historic Robert Lang Studios. In the supposedly haunted room, carved under the hillside home of Robert Lang, which has been host to so many artists of note, like Nirvana, The Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, and Nada Surf, Lanois spoke with DJ Kevin Cole about the craft of performing and creating, of his complicated relationship with the pedal steel, of producing iconic artists like Emmylou Harris and U2, and much more. Over the course of the night, Lanois - joined by guitarist/bassist Jim Wilson and drummer Kyle Crane - also performed songs from throughout his career, including a brand new, as yet unrecorded track. We are delighted to share highlights from this magical evening with you now and hope you will join us next time!
