Review Revue: Tom Petty – “Change of Heart”

Poor Tom Petty. He gets no love. Actually, that’s not true. He probably has lots of money and lots of people, including some prominent contemporary songwriters, do love him, but back in the day, KCMU DJs couldn’t seem to be bothered even to comment on the single for “Change of Heart”, which was added to the station’s library in 1983. Even worse, this single was recently found by an employee of KEXP while shopping at a local thrift shop! Yes, the very same copy of the single has returned to our library after journeying through who knows whose record collection and which used vinyl bins. Hopefully, with the upcoming KEXP New Home benefit show, KEXPetty, today’s DJs will have a, uh, change of heart.

You can show your love for Tom Petty and KEXP at KEXPetty, next Tuesday, May 5th, at the Tractor Tavern, and hear a local lineup of artists including Noah Gundersen, Black Whales, The Hollers, and Courtney Marie Andrews perform Tom Petty covers all night. Proceeds benefit KEXP’s New Home campaign. Get your tickets here.
