  • When in Rome, amiright? Last week, TV on the Radio played the legendary First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN, so of course, they kicked out a cover of Prince‘s 1984 hit “Purple Rain.” Watch fan shot video of the performance below, with Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe trading off lead vocals. • Along those lines, when UK electro-quintet Hot Chip stopped by Webster Hall in New York last night, they payed tribute to LCD Soundsystem with a joyful cover of “All My Friends.” During the earlier show, Sinkane and LCD’s Nancy Whang joined the band, and at their second show, David Byrne pitched in. • Following a vibrant performance at Pickathon last weekend, tUnE-yArDs shares a new video today for the Nikki Nack track “Rocking Chair.” The clip was created by artist Sarah Pupo, and in an interview with the Village Voice, Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs herself) explained, “It’s like the opposite of videos that we’ve done in the past. It’s abstract, kinda like looking through a kaleidoscope. The images that she used, I’m just so excited to attach them to that song, which is really rare…it’s kind of like the cherry on top of the record cycle.” [Stereogum]

  • L.A. band Silversun Pickups will release their fourth album, Better Nature, on September 25th via their own label, New Machine Recordings. Get a sneak peek with the video for the track “Nightlight” below. The clip was directed by Mark Pellington and stars actress Meg Steedle (Boardwalk Empire, The Mysteries of Laura). [Under the Radar]
