I have to admit that after reading up a little bit on the goings-on in the life of Ripton Hylton, a.k.a. Eek-A-Mouse, in the past decade or so, I was unsure as to whether I should be talking about this particular album. But after a little more reading and thinking (and listening), I decided to go ahead and post it with a nod to my conflicted feelings. I don't really have a good reason beyond running low on pictures in my Review Revue stash and loving the cover of this one. But let's just say talking about a record isn't necessarily celebrating it, and even celebrating a 27-year-old record isn't necessarily celebrating its creator's more recent actions.

So I guess for now let's just float back to 1988 and pretend everything is great and nobody ever does terrible things. Sound good?

"It seems like years since his last release but this LP was worth waiting for - one of my fave. dudes."

"One of the more interesting reggae artists."

"I like this."

"I groove on Eek-a-Mouse. Give some respect to the man and his music."

"The freak is the freakiest!"

"Exhilarating! Refreshing! Cutting edge reggae in the spirit of Ini Kamoze's 'Shocking Out'..."

"Well his song 'Lies' is pretty lame and redundant but he maintains his classic style throughout."

"KCMU welcomes to Parker's on Sun, 10/8 (21+)"

You know, it's bad enough when there's a band that I'm vaguely familiar with, that I know I should really check out, but have never quite gotten around to (we see a lot of those in this column). But when there's a band that I totally think "yeah, I know that band! I like them," only to realize that…
