KEXP is excited to premiere a new video from Superchunk-frontman Mac McCaughan for the track "Box Batteries," off his debut solo full-length Non-Believers, out now on Merge Records. The clip brings you face-to-face with its director, Brooklyn-based performance artist Anya Liftig, whose big blue eyes stare at you from the screen as her nose twitches, her lips twist, and her entire face moves in time with the music. McCaughan explains how they came to collaborate: Earlier this year I was at the New Museum, and my son and I wandered into what looked like a closet on the lower level and found a video monitor in there which mesmerized us for the next 15 minutes -- on the screen there was a closeup of a woman's face moving (to music) and contorting and occasionally producing small animals, plastic eyeballs, etc. from her expressive mouth. It was Anya Liftig's video for the Aunts For Camera exhibition of dance-for-video pieces and it was amazing. I contacted Anya to see if she would be interested in making a video for a song from Non-Believers and she came up with this remarkable "dance" piece for the song "Box Batteries."
